Crossing the Gulf of Mexico

19 January

IMG_2788Today is a sea day as we sail North West from Key West to New Orleans across the Gulf of Mexico. There is a port talk about Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, followed by the last talk by Chris Walker, this time on where to see music in New Orleans – the Court of Two Sisters restaurant seems to be a good place during the day but we are booked on a paddle boat music cruise on the Mississippi in the evening.

The Court of Two Sisters

Not only is Chris Martin a speaker, he is an accomplished musician and at lunchtime he and some of the resident ship’s musicians provide some musical entertainment – Jazz at the Vespers – in a packed Crow’s nest. Songs included Battle Hymn of the Republic, Amazing Grace and Down by the Riverside were all sung with gusto.

An afternoon talk by Nick Owen of TV AM fame, who talked about his life in TV and a few of the people he has met, including Eric Morecambe, Elton John and all Prime Ministers with the exception of Gordon Brown.

Whilst Sal, Deirdre and John went to the cinema tonight, it was time for me to catch up with my blog.
